Roses have always been popular garden plants. Their flowers bring colourfulness into the garden and announce the beginning of summer. When designing gardens, we often come across the client's wish to have a rose garden or at least one rose bed. Roses are garden plants that are admirable when blossoming. But plants must be regarded as a whole, meaning that we observe their appearance throughout the entire year. We also assess their ornamental value before and after blossoming, the beauty of their leaves, their winter appearance and other characteristics. We also take into account their maintenance and possible diseases. Consequently, we designed beds sized 33 m2, where we combined different sorts of roses, including also varieties ‘Trubar’ and ‘Ljubljana’, with perennials and ornamental grass, selected in such a way that they would also serve as companions, while ensuring the beauty of the bed during the period when the roses do not blossom.
